Coming and sowing
Cut and come again is easy with both succession sowing and choosing suitable leafy crops. Fast-growing lettuces from seed include Tom Thumb and Little Gem, but most lettuces and salad leaves provide pickings over a long period.
Taking a few outer leaves and leaving the plant to grow on and sprout more leaves will give you a continuous supply. Suitable cut and come again plants include radicchio, mizuna, leaf celery, rocket, sorrel, spinach, chard, basil, beetroot, coriander, parsley, mustard, red kale and pak choi.
Vegetables to continue sowing now include cauliflower, endive, cress, red cabbage, turnips and radishes. Chinese cabbage and Chinese kale are good for stir-fries and autumn salads.
