The Vegetable Plot – December

How have you fared with the crops in season this month? Jerusalem artichokes, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, celeriac, celery, endive, kale, leeks, parsnips, savoy cabbage can all be on the menu.

No one expects you to grow everything but if you are keeping your own gardener’s journal it’s good to make notes of what you would like to harvest around Christmas next year.

Grown under glass you could also have chicory, endive, lettuce, mustard and cress, radish, rhubarb and seakale. How many of these have you grown? You can always refer back to previous months of The Gardener’s Journal for tips on what to grow, when and where.

You can still make successional sowings of mustard and cress and radishes in a warm greenhouse or frame. All the more for some delicious festive dishes.
