Q. We seem to get a lot of areas on the lawn that get shaved bare when we cut the grass. What can we do to stop it?

A. It looks as if your problem is scalping, where the garden tractor deck or cylinder mower is encountering an uneven lawn. Raise the height of cut and improve evenness by top dressing the lawn.
